Class to Pass in 3 Weeks

The theory test

This test must be passed before you can book your practical test so it is recommended that you start working towards it as soon as you can. DTC runs a Theory Course which can have you passing the test in three weeks (see DTC Course menu above).

There are two parts to the test.  You must pass them both at the same time.  If you pass one part and not the other, you’ll need to re-sit both.  You can sit this test as many times as you need to.Driving Lessons Edinburgh

Theory Test

The theory test is a computer-based, touch-screen test at various centres around the country.  Edinburgh’s test centre is on Union Street.

There are 50 multiple-choice questions and you need to get at least 43 correct to pass.  You have 57 minutes to complete the test. There is a 15-minute practice session you can work through before starting the test. Driving Lessons Edinburgh

Hazard Perception Test

This forms the second section of the theory test and must be passed at the same time. There are 14 video clips, each about a minute long.   The videos feature various types of hazard, such as other vehicles, pedestrians and animals.

There are 15 hazards for you to spot.  13 of the 14 video clips contain only one hazard that you must spot and one clip contains two hazards.  You can score up to 5 points for each hazard, depending on how early you spot it.

The pass mark is 44 out of 75.

Once you have passed your theory test, you have two years from that date to pass the practical test.  If this is not achieved, the theory test must be re-sat before another attempt at the practical test can be made.Driving Lessons Edinburgh
