Class to Pass in 3 Weeks

dtc's Top ten tips for success

1.    Start studying for your theory test as soon as you start your tuition.   DTC has courses specifically designed for you to start your theory training; it combines classroom work with in car “Put into Practice”.

2.    Ensure you seek professional tuition.  Private practice will help, but you should only do that once you have received at least 15 hours of professional tuition.  You can confirm your instructor is an Approved Driving Instructor as he or she will display a licence in the windscreen of the tuition car. This indicates they are registered with the Driving Standards Agency.

3.    Check that the Instructor's Car has dual controls and is in good condition. Also make sure a spare car is available in case of a breakdown.

4.    Check that your driving school can help with the theory test. Some say they do, but generally do not actually offer any course on the DSA Theory Test Syllabus. What they mean is, they sell the books and software, but you will have to self-study for test.  You'll have to pass this before you can take your practical test.

5.    Don't assume the cheapest lessons are the best. Find out if there are any added-value benefits. Does the driving school offer discounts for pre-payment, membership of a motoring organisation and post-test tuition (for motorway driving)? Check out how long a 'lesson' is. Some driving schools may offer lessons that are less than an hour long.

6.    Make sure your instructor monitors your progress on the official DSA Syllabus.

7.    Only buy a theory book that contains the official questions and answers.

8.    Ensure that both you and your instructor agree that you are ready to take the practical test (remember you'll need to pass your theory test first).

9.    Get ready for your test by taking regular lessons with a qualified instructor (at least an hour, but preferably two, per week). Your instructor will advise you on how much tuition you should need.

10.    Make sure your tuition car is available for both the practical test and an hour before.
